Families or children travelling with F-1 visa holders will do so on an F-2 visa. Please be aware that wives cannot work but may accompany their partners or apply for their own visa to work or study in the United States.
- J1 Student Visa:
For students, visiting researchers, and lecturers participating in exchange programmes, the J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa is available. For instance, many students on short-term study abroad programmes and Fulbright scholars from Indian colleges would enter the United States on a J-1 visa.
The J1 visa is typically applied for by a working professional travelling to the United States as part of an exchange programme, thus the term Exchange Visitor Visa. These could consist of a 10-month vocational programme, a research fellowship, etc. Regardless of the situation, the relevant institutions will notify the applicants.
Children or spouses travelling with J-1 visa holders will do so on a J-2 visa. Please take notice that spouses are permitted to work if prior authorization is granted.
- M1 Student Visa:
A specific sort of student visa called the M1 is only available to students attending vocational and technical institutions. While the application procedure for both the M1 and F1 visas is identical, the M1 visas vary in that students cannot overstay their visit because they are time-stamped when they arrive.
